Finland: The Housing First Model
The Housing First model, was first implemented in Finland in 2007. It has been a key element in the country’s overall strategy to prevent and eliminate homelessness of all kinds. Corresponding initiatives, such as the PAAVO and AUNE programs, have made the ambitious goal of cutting the number of homeless in half within the next 4 years a feasible reality.
By partnering with the Y-Foundation, Finland's fourth largest landlord and primary developer of the Housing First principle, Finland has created a forward thinking model that has become the standard bearer for all efforts to combat homelessness and its related issues both in Europe and around the world. |
